Mildred Augusta 1861-1864 HIgh Brimmed Bonnet
A three-piece bonnet with a flared brim and c shaped profile, the classic fashionable high brimmed or spoon bonnet of the 1860s.
The Mildred Augusta is available with three different shapes and a Marie Stuart option to span the American Civil War era. Brim 1 (late 1861 through 1862) is a moderately high brim flared at the cheek. Brim 2 (1862 through 1863) is a high brim still wide at the cheek making a rather large bonnet. Brim 3 (1863 through 1864) is a high brim narrow at the cheek. The pattern includes a 30 page instruction booklet complete with detailed illustrations.
Premade forms have net brim, buckram headpiece, and blocked crown.
The Mildred Augusta kit includes: buckram, netting, wire, blocked tip, binding, and connectors to create your form, stiff cotton netting to line the curtain, soft English cotton netting to create your cap, organdy to line the headpiece, a curved needle for putting it all together, and a box to store your bonnet.
The Mildred Augusta deluxe kit includes: premade buckram and net-form, stiff cotton netting to line the curtain, soft English cotton netting to create your cap, organdy to line the headpiece, a curved needle for putting it all together, and a box to store your bonnet.
Mildred Augusta 1 (61-62) is the early high brimmed (spoon) bonnet. It is moderately high and maintains flare at the cheek. Mildred Augusta 2 (62-63) is the mid high brimmed (spoon) bonnet. It is higher and wider than the Mildred Augusta 1. Mildred Augusta 3 is the late high brimmed (spoon) bonnet. It maintains the height of the Mildred Augusta 2, but is narrower at the cheek.
