These lovely sheer chemisettes have no provenance.

They were purchased on Ebay as part of my research in sheer

accessories, such as chemisettes, pelerines, fichus, and collars.

In looking through the ladies magazines, I have not found an

exact duplicate to either one of these, but they have the general

feel of the 1850s style and could still be worn into the 1860s.

Chemisette A has four sections of inset lace and pleated

laces to create its look. The collar drapes around the a lowered

v-neck opening with a self placket. It closes with a single

a button

Chemisette B has a pleated front and pieced lace collar

which closes at the neck with a single button. The overall neck

measurement is 17”.

FABRIC:

The original fabrics are white, sheer cottons.

Depending on what is available some batistes and voiles are

very close to the originals. Chemisette B uses a finer woven

fabric on the Button Stand. The laces on both garments are natural

fibers. Both retain a starch finish.

FIT:

These chemisettes would have been worn over a chemise

and corset and under the dress or bodice and skirt.
