In Practical Millinery
In about 1861, bonnet brims rose becoming the spoon bonnet introduced late in 1861. The spoon shape rose to ridiculous proportions throughout early 1860's.  By late 1864, more modest lower brimmed empire bonnets appeared which maintained popularity until 1867 when they began to be replaced by fanchons.
