The Juliana Rose
1855-1861

The Juliana Rose appeared in the fashion pages in 1854.  Initially low brimmed, the bonnet sat  far back on the head.  Just barely visible from the front, the bonnet created a tiny halo around the face.  In the later 50's, the brim grew larger and from the front the bonnet looked like a small circle.  As the 1860’s approached, the brim grew and lengthened in shape to make way for the spoon bonnet that appeared late in 1861.
